Portagioie

What: A series of home accessories and damask fabrics inspired by an early 20th century Italian jewellery box.

Why: With its straw marquetry and woven silk damask, for Clémence Plumelet, the craftsmanship of this jewellery box is more valuable than any gem it was originally designed to hold. She embarks on a journey and dialogue between past and present in the Italian crafts industry.

How: Clémence worked with specialist Italian companies to develop her own contemporary take on traditional techniques. Her mirror and storage box put her modern, marquetry-inspired material in the spotlight. She also developed a new fabric based on a digitised version of an original handdrawn damask archive pattern.

In collaboration with: Tabu, Enzo Degli Angiuoni, Antica Fabbrica Passamanerie Massia Vittorio, Stefania Demartini, conservator of the Museo del Damasco di Lorsica.
